INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF WATER HEATERS & ELECTRO-BOILERS
The water heater must not be in contact with any copper elements, particularly at the water supply inlet. It is recommended that the resistance be decalcified every two years. The magnesium rod, which is screwed on the gasket, should be checked every two years, and replaced when worn. More specifically, the magnesium rod should be replaced when it is shorter than 10cm or its diameter is smaller than 1cm or both. Excessive accumulation of calcium carbonate reduces the performance of the resistance and may even cause it to burn out, as well as reducing the valuable volume of water.
In order to empty out the water contained in the appliance, you should follow these steps:
For vertical and horizontal models:
- Disconnect the water heater from the main power supply.
- Turn off the water supply; to be sure, turn on the hot water tap (there should be no running water).
- Unscrew the plumbing connection at the water supply inlet (cold water), along with the valve.
- Place one end of a hose spirit-level on the outside of the cold water inlet pipe; the other end should empty out into a bath or sink.
- Unscrew the plumbing connection for the water outlet (hot water), in order to allow air to enter the appliance, and make the water pass through the water heater. The process will be completed as soon as the stored amount of water has been emptied out.
- If the above process does not cause water to run out of the heater, then unscrew the plumbing connection at the hot water inlet in order to allow air to enter the appliance; this will cause the water to pass through the heater.
For floor models, the following actions are required:
- Disconnect the water heater from the main power supply.
- Turn off the water supply; to be sure, turn on the hot water tap (there should be no running water).
- Unscrew all plumbing connections (cold – hot).
- Place one end of a hose spirit-level on the outside of the cold water inlet pipe; the other end should empty out into a bath or sink. From that end, suck the air out of the hose, until the water starts to flow naturally. The process will be completed as soon as the stored amount of water is emptied out.
To replace the resistance, follow the steps below:
- Disconnect the heater from the main power supply.
From that end, blow until the water starts to flow naturally. The process will be completed as soon as the stored amount of water is emptied out.
- Finally, unscrew the 6 bolts on the resistance, remove the worn resistance and replace with a new one. During the installation of the new resistance, particular attention should be paid to the bolts being screwed on correctly.
- For horizontally positioned heaters (horizontal – floor), the thermostat on the resistance must always be located at its lower part.*
- Finally, when putting the resistance in place, the small thermostat pipe should always remain intact (and not be bent), since that may affect the proper functioning of the heater.
